Each burial site is analysed demographically and possession classification of male graves is made. Elite graves are the most remarkable group. They differ by the grave goods and usually also by the arrangement of the burial pit. Exceptional graves and burial sites are compared and contrasted mutually and with other remarkable graves from Bohemia. Global Elite and its Clubs: The Case of Bilderberg Group
Kantor, Lukáš ; Karlas, Jan (advisor) ; Střítecký, Vít (referee) ; Krpec, Oldřich (referee)
of the dissertation The following five interdisciplinary essays contribute to International Relations, sociology and media studies, mainly on empirical, but also on theoretical level. Their overarching message is to reject paranoid, but also benign narrative of global elite clubs as exemplified on the case of the controversial transatlantic forum Bilderberg Group. On theoretical level, the dissertation highlights continuing relevance of sometimes overlooked neo-Marxism. It offers further support for the thesis that some kind of transnational capitalist class (TCC) has developed, which is disputed even by several neo- Marxists, let alone other scholars. Specifically, the findings on Bilderberg Group corroborate the existence of Euro-Atlantic TCC. Within this social network, the European fraction seems to be the most consolidated one. On empirical level, the dissertation is the first publication that thoroughly exploited data from the recently launched official Bilderberg Group's website. From another under- researched source, the dissertation compiled new datasets about all post-Cold War Bilderberg conferences. On this basis, the essays provide original quantitative and qualitative insights into the composition of Bilderberg attendees and topics of their discussions. The dissertation offers the...

Jan Vobořil Abstract This thesis compares municipal elites in Karlín and Libeň - two suburban areas of Prague - between the years 1861 and 1914. It also discusses the socio-professional characteristics of members of local government and their lifestyle based on collective biography considering among others their property, national preferences, social activities and housing standards and formation of family relations. This was also reflected in the structure of municipal elites with important involvement of the well-educated social class, such as...
Karel Engliš among the Elite of the First Republic
Hlaváč, Martin ; Čechurová, Jana (advisor) ; Jakubec, Ivan (referee) ; Kvaček, Robert (referee)
The main goal of my dissertation is to analyze the personality of Engliš, who was an important representative of the scientific and financial elites during the period of the First Republic. I will venture to explain the causes of his rise during the First Republic and aim to characterize his relations with other elites. The term "elite" refers not only to representatives of the political and financial life of the First Republic, but also to the important leaders of its scientific and cultural scenes. In my dissertation I want to address the relationships between the elite of the First Republic and Karel Engliš. Public opinion played an important role in the relations between Engliš and the elite of the First Republic, in particular as Engliš was presented in the media and how the public perceived him. His family was supportive of Karel Engliš but also caused him many problems. I have found the main material for my thesis in the archive of the National Museum (Archiv Národního muzea), the Literary Archive of the Museum of Czech Literature (Literární archiv Památníku národního písemnictví), the archive of Charles University (Archiv Univerzity Karlovy), the archive of Masaryk University in Brno (Archiv Masarykovy univerzity v Brně) and the archive of the National Bank of the Czech Republic (Archiv...
Ways of Identifying Elites in the Area of the Central European Barbaricum of the Late Roman Period
Payne, David ; Beneš, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Košnar, Lubomír (referee)
The thesis pursues those aspects of the material culture found in settlements and burial sites that are connected to the manifestation of social elites in the Central European Barbaricum of the 3rd and 4th centuries AD. The author will compile relevant sources and critically evaluate various approaches regarding the options for recognising the self-presentation of elites by means of material culture identificators as well as in terms of cultural anthropology. The results will then be compared to the ways elites manifest themselves in the preceding time period. The author will also submit a proposal of possible methodical procedures that would lead to a synthetic understanding of the self-presentation and prestige goods phenomena.
